Ranchi, October 9 (Daily Kiran) : India faced a disappointing six-wicket defeat against West Indies in the second T20 International match held in Ranchi. The Caribbean team successfully chased down India’s target of 250 runs in just 18.3 overs, losing four wickets in the process. Following the match, Indian captain Shreyas Iyer acknowledged the exceptional batting displayed by the West Indies players.
Iyer commented, “There’s no definitive score that guarantees safety. The dew plays a significant role, and you can’t pinpoint an exact figure. On this pitch, there was little room for error. Any mistake would send the ball soaring into the stands. We missed some opportunities, but that’s part of the game. However, credit must be given where it’s due; they batted exceptionally well.”
He also praised the performances of Mayank Yadav, who took three wickets, and Sanju Samson, who scored a powerful 82 runs. Iyer stated, “Both of their performances were outstanding. We expect this from Sanju and Abhishek. Their contributions, along with Mayank’s, were crucial. Those three key wickets helped stabilize our momentum, but after that, a partnership formed, and the match’s momentum shifted in their favor.”
Batting first, India scored 249 runs for the loss of five wickets in their allotted 20 overs, with Samson leading the charge. However, the West Indies reached their target with nine balls to spare. Shai Hope delivered a remarkable performance, scoring 102 runs off just 45 balls, remaining not out, while Sherfane Rutherford contributed a blistering 84 runs off 37 balls. This victory leveled the five-match series at 1-1, following India’s seven-wicket win in the first T20.
