West Indies Sets Records with Historic Chase, Shai Hope Achieves Milestone

West Indies defeats India by 6 wickets in a thrilling T20 match, setting records and Shai Hope scoring a remarkable century.

Ranchi, October 9 (Daily Kiran) : The West Indies delivered a stunning performance, defeating India by six wickets in the second T20 match held at the JSCA International Cricket Stadium in Ranchi on October 9, 2026. Chasing a target of 250 runs, the Caribbean team made history with their remarkable achievement.

This victory marked the second-largest successful run chase in T20 International cricket. The highest remains South Africa’s 259 runs against the West Indies. Notably, this was only the seventh instance in T20 history where a team successfully chased down 250 runs or more.

India batted first, scoring 249 runs for the loss of five wickets in their 20 overs. The match saw a total of 501 runs, the second-highest aggregate in T20 International history. The record for the most runs in a match is 517, set during a 2009 encounter between the West Indies and South Africa. In this thrilling clash, a total of 79 sixes and fours were hit, just shy of the 81 boundaries struck in the 2023 match between South Africa and the West Indies.

Captain Shai Hope played a pivotal role, remaining unbeaten on 102 runs off just 45 balls. His century is the second-fastest in T20 International history for the West Indies, trailing only Johnson Charles, who scored a century in 39 balls in 2023. Hope also became the joint-second fastest player to score a century against India in this format, following Jacob Bethel, who achieved the feat in 45 balls during the T20 World Cup 2026. With this performance, he joins cricket legends Chris Gayle and Evin Lewis as the third West Indian to score two centuries in T20 cricket.
