West Indies Makes History with Record Chase Against India in Ranchi

Ranchi, October 9 (Daily Kiran) : The West Indies cricket team made history on October 9, 2026, at the JSCA International Cricket Stadium in Ranchi, achieving their highest-ever T20 International chase. In the second T20 match against India, they successfully chased down a daunting target of 250 runs, finishing with 9 balls to spare and losing just 4 wickets.

This victory marks the largest run chase for the West Indies against India in T20 history and stands as the second-highest chase in the format’s history. The West Indies’ innings began poorly, with Kieron Pollard dismissed for just 4 runs, and Shimron Hetmyer bowled out on the first ball he faced from Mayank Yadav. Rovman Powell managed 24 runs off 13 balls but became Yadav’s third victim, leaving the team struggling at 58 runs for 3 wickets.

However, captain Shai Hope and Sherfane Rutherford turned the match around with a remarkable partnership. Together, they scored 120 runs for the fourth wicket in just 54 balls. Rutherford played aggressively, smashing 84 runs off 37 balls, which included seven fours and seven sixes.

Even after Rutherford’s dismissal, Hope maintained his rhythm, forming a crucial partnership with Romario Shepherd. The pair added an unbroken 74 runs for the fifth wicket in just 26 balls, paving the way for victory. Hope finished with an impressive 102 not out off 45 balls, while Shepherd contributed 34 runs off just 13 balls.

Earlier, India had set a formidable target, scoring 249 runs for 5 wickets in their 20 overs. Sanju Samson was the standout performer, scoring 82 runs off 41 balls, including nine fours and four sixes. Ishan Kishan added 43 runs from 22 balls, and captain Shreyas Iyer chipped in with 40 runs off 18 balls, while Tilak Varma scored 44 runs, supported by three fours and three sixes.

This match not only showcased the West Indies’ batting prowess but also added a memorable chapter to T20 cricket history.
