Shreya Ghoshal Reveals Untold Secrets of Her Singing Journey

Mumbai, May 3: Recently, renowned playback singer Shreya Ghoshal released her live album from the ‘All Hearts Tour.’ In a candid conversation, she shared insights into how she understands the nuances of singing in various Indian languages.

Ghoshal emphasized that her learning process is never-ending. She pays close attention to vocal expression and the finer details in her singing. When asked if she has ever learned something from someone outside the music industry that she incorporated into her songs, she affirmed that this happens frequently.

“I believe this happens consistently. I work extensively at the regional level. I have sung in regional languages from the very beginning. So, when I need to sing a Tamil or Malayalam song, I closely observe the body language of the entire team in the studio, their speaking tone, and how they articulate each word. Understanding people helps me connect more deeply with the songs in those languages,” she explained.

She further elaborated, “I learn all this from the people present around me. This includes everyone involved in the team, especially the song’s creators and anyone who knows the language or the story behind the song. Therefore, I am constantly learning. I feel that this goes beyond just language.”

Shreya provided an example, stating that if a song incorporates elements of folk music, she recalls related examples in her mind. For instance, if the song is in the Gujarati folk style, she imagines how renowned singers of that style would perform it. She continuously draws inspiration from various sources, which aids her singing.

Meanwhile, her ‘All Hearts Tour’ live album has been released under Sony Music India.
