Guwahati, August 20: A shocking murder case has emerged from Rangia in Assam’s Kamrup district, where a transgender individual was brutally killed with a sharp weapon.
The incident occurred near the Rangia railway station in the village of Gurkuchi on Wednesday. It is alleged that 28-year-old Sona Babu Ali murdered the transgender individual, identified as Jahidul Islam, also known as Asma Begum. Local residents reported that Asma had been renting a place in Gurkuchi village near the railway station for the past five years.
Sona Babu Ali, a young man from Golpara district, was reportedly living in the same room as Asma Begum. On Wednesday, Asma was found dead on the floor, with her throat slit.
A neighbor alerted the Rangia police, who quickly arrived at the scene along with CID and forensic experts, including sniffer dogs, to investigate the crime. The police recovered the weapon used in the murder. Meanwhile, the suspect, Sona Babu Ali, surrendered at the Lakhipur police station in Golpara district. Rangia police subsequently went to Lakhipur to arrest him. The true motive behind the murder will be revealed after further questioning.
In a separate incident, two tenth-grade students were detained in Telangana’s Nalgonda district for the brutal murder of their school principal and director. This shocking case was solved more than a week after the murder of 49-year-old Kallu Roopa Reddy at her home, where she suffered 27 stab wounds.
According to police, the students killed Roopa Reddy for money, while one of them had a personal grievance against her. At the time of the incident, her husband, Rajendra Reddy, was away in Hyderabad for work. She was found dead at her home on the morning of August 12.
