BJPs Agenda to Discredit Opposition Leaders, Says Tariq Anwar on Satyendar Jains Arrest

New Delhi, August 20: Congress leader Tariq Anwar has criticized the BJP and the central government regarding the arrest of former minister Satyendar Jain in connection with the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) scam, the OBC census, the Vande Mataram controversy, and the ongoing protests in Jharkhand over the JPSC exam.

Commenting on Jain’s arrest by the Anti-Corruption Bureau, Anwar stated, “It is the BJP’s agenda to defame, arrest, and harass opposition leaders so that they eventually join the BJP. Those who faced serious allegations and corruption charges have now become ministers and have been given significant responsibilities by the BJP. As the saying goes, anyone who gets washed in the BJP’s ‘washing machine’ emerges spotless.”

Anwar supported Rahul Gandhi‘s statement that if the OBC community takes to the streets for their rights, the government will have to concede. He remarked, “The ongoing census does not include a column for OBCs. This has generated significant anger and frustration within the OBC community.”

He questioned, “Why has their category been removed? In a way, the OBC population is the largest in our country, including both Hindus and Muslims. If you remove them, what will be the point of the census?”

Regarding the controversy surrounding Vande Mataram, Anwar stated, “It has been 80 years since independence, and this song has been sung since before our freedom. It has been sung by everyone from Mahatma Gandhi to Narendra Modi. Yet, the government is amending it, claiming that those who do not sing it will face legal action. The BJP has deliberately created this controversy to distract people from real issues.”

On the ongoing student protests in Jharkhand regarding irregularities in the JPSC exam, Anwar commended the state government for taking initiative and attempting to engage with the students. He said, “The government will continue to address the shortcomings, as the Chief Minister has stated. The protesting students have ended their hunger strike, but their demand remains that the investigation be handed over to the CBI. However, I personally believe that the CBI is no longer impartial. The Supreme Court has also remarked that it has become like a parrot in a cage.”
