Shocking Incident in Sambalpur: Son Kills Mother Over Food Dispute, Arrest Made

Sambalpur, February 26: A tragic incident has emerged from Sambalpur district in Odisha, where a son allegedly killed his mother in a fit of rage. The incident occurred around 2 PM on Thursday in the village of Rengalakani, under the jurisdiction of the Jujumura police station. The victim has been identified as 55-year-old Janani Bhoi, while the accused is her 32-year-old son, Purnachandra Bhoi.

According to police and local sources, Janani was home alone when Purnachandra demanded food from her. For reasons unknown, she refused to provide it. Enraged by her denial, Purnachandra lost control and brutally attacked her with an iron pipe found in the house. The assault left Janani with severe injuries to her head, face, and other parts of her body. She succumbed to her injuries at the scene.

After committing the crime, Purnachandra attempted to flee but was quickly apprehended by local villagers. They beat him before handing him over to the police. Authorities arrested Purnachandra Bhoi and recovered Janani Bhoi’s body from the scene. The body has been sent to VSS Medical College Hospital in Sambalpur for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death and the severity of her injuries.

Police reported that initial investigations revealed Purnachandra had been experiencing mental health issues for some time. Family members noted that he often became angry over trivial matters and frequently engaged in disputes at home. However, no one could have anticipated such a violent act.

The police have registered a case and are conducting a thorough interrogation of Purnachandra.
