Kolkata, July 11: West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari has instructed the state police to identify and dismantle all illegal liquor and drug operations within the next two weeks.
The Chief Minister noted that the number of such operations has surged during the previous administration, compromising women’s safety in various areas.
He referenced a recent incident in Baruipur, South 24 Parganas, where a 12-year-old girl was allegedly raped and murdered by an individual under the influence of drugs. Adhikari suggested that an illegal liquor operation in the area might have indirectly contributed to this crime.
He urged citizens to report any illegal liquor or drug operations in their neighborhoods to the local police immediately.
During the inauguration of a new police station in the Suryapur area of Baruipur, the Chief Minister emphasized that many heinous crimes against women are often linked to illegal liquor and drug operations. Thus, informing the police about such establishments is crucial.
Following this, he directed the state’s Director General of Police (DGP) to launch a special campaign over the next two weeks to identify and dismantle illegal liquor and drug operations statewide.
Adhikari mentioned that while regular searches and raids occur in areas near the Bangladesh border, similar efforts are now necessary in rural regions. He stressed that illegal liquor and drug operations must be eradicated from villages to free society from this “social pollution.”
