Shiv Sena Supports Marathi Language Requirement for Auto-Rickshaw Drivers

Mumbai, May 1: The Maharashtra government‘s decision to give auto-rickshaw drivers four months to learn the Marathi language has sparked a new debate on language and employment in the state. Responding to this issue, Shiv Sena spokesperson Raju Waghmare described it as a straightforward and practical step.

He mentioned that the government and the transport department are releasing booklets to help drivers learn Marathi easily. Additionally, he pointed out the availability of numerous mobile apps that simplify the language learning process.

In an interview, Raju Waghmare clarified that there is significant similarity between the scripts of Hindi and Marathi. Therefore, drivers need to focus on essential aspects, such as directions, place names, and basic conversations. According to him, learning Marathi is crucial since most road signs and informational boards in the state are written in Marathi, facilitating better communication between passengers and drivers.

He emphasized that the government’s stance is clear: every individual working in Maharashtra should know Marathi. He believes that for those earning a livelihood in the state, knowledge of the local language is essential, regardless of their profession.

Congress leader Amin Patel stated that there is no opposition to the Marathi language. He noted that people are eager to learn and speak Marathi voluntarily, and many are already using it. According to him, this issue is not a controversy but rather a natural inclination towards adopting the language.
