Sheikh Hasina Accuses Anti-Liberation Forces of Undermining Bangladeshs 1971 Ideals

Dhaka, March 26: Bangladesh is celebrating its Independence Day today. In this context, former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has alleged that both domestic and foreign conspiracies are being supported by anti-liberation forces attempting to erase the ideals of the country’s 1971 liberation struggle against Pakistan.

The Awami League shared Hasina’s statement on their social media platform, stating, “Today, the nation is going through a difficult and challenging time. After overcoming numerous obstacles to lead the country towards prosperity, some anti-liberation forces are once again trying to undermine all our achievements.”

She emphasized that Bangladesh has never bowed to injustice. Just as the people of Bengal united under the leadership of the Father of the Nation in 1971 and bravely fought for victory, they will rise again with the same spirit and patriotism. “No conspiracy can silence us. The people will unite once more, break the web of conspiracies, and achieve victory again,” she asserted.

Local media reports indicate that the country commemorates March 26 as Independence Day and National Day to honor the freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives for the nation’s liberation.

The armed struggle for independence began on the morning of March 26, 1971, following a brutal crackdown by the Pakistani army on unarmed Bangladeshis the night before, known as “Genocide Day.”

Remembering her father, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Hasina paid tribute to him, stating that under his “indomitable leadership,” Bangladesh achieved its freedom.

She also honored four national leaders, frontline warriors of the liberation struggle, three million martyrs, organizers at all levels, and the countless women who faced Pakistani atrocities.

Quoting Bangabandhu’s statement from March 26, 1971, she recalled, “This may be my last message. From today, Bangladesh is free. I call upon the people of Bangladesh, wherever you are, to resist the occupying forces with all your might. Continue the fight until the last soldier of the Pakistani occupying army is expelled from Bengal, and victory is achieved.”

Hasina noted that the broadcast of this message on the morning of March 26, 1971, marked the declaration of Bangladesh’s birth. On this historic Independence and National Day, she extended heartfelt wishes and congratulations to the people of the country and all Bangladeshis living abroad.
