New Delhi, July 22: Amidst the ongoing monsoon session, Congress is insisting on a discussion in Parliament regarding the NEET paper leak and is demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. On Wednesday, Congress MPs emphasized that Rahul Gandhi’s protests should not be viewed as confrontational but rather as a call for the government to engage in self-reflection.
Speaking to a news agency, Sukdev Bhagat stated, “There is a saying that when Parliament falls silent, the streets begin to speak. This is a serious issue. When the future of approximately 75 million people is at stake and appears uncertain, we have consistently raised these concerns.”
The Congress MP highlighted that Rahul Gandhi has repeatedly called for discussions on the paper leak issues and has advocated for reforms. He added, “When there is no other option left, and the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, decides to protest near the Prime Minister‘s residence, it should not be seen as a confrontation. The government needs to engage in self-reflection.”
Addressing allegations of changing statements against Rahul Gandhi, Sukdev Bhagat remarked, “Under Rahul Gandhi’s leadership, Congress has persistently demanded the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan and a discussion in Parliament regarding the NEET issue. The Prime Minister, Home Minister, and Education Minister are responsible for this entire episode. The Prime Minister is the leader of the house, and nothing can happen without his protection. The Home Minister is accountable for the brutal actions taken, and Dharmendra Pradhan is responsible for the NEET paper leak. Therefore, we have raised the demand for a comprehensive discussion.”
Congress leader Udit Raj also defended the student-led protests, stating that these demonstrations were driven by genuine concerns regarding employment and irregularities in examinations, rather than political motives.
He mentioned, “Ninety percent of the students are here for their future; they are not political individuals. They have come for the right cause. The march on July 20 was organized collectively. I spoke to nearly 50 youths, and all came voluntarily. No one brought them here. The paper has leaked, and they are not getting jobs. They are expressing their anger.”
Udit Raj further alleged that students and Congress-affiliated organizations faced restrictions while attempting to conduct peaceful protests. He stated, “They have been demanding resignations for a long time. Rahul Gandhi has engaged with thousands of youths in Kota and Dehradun. NSUI members have faced police brutality. When we seek permission to protest at Jantar Mantar, it is denied.”
