Shabana Azmi Remembers the Release of Fire in Spain with Heartwarming Photos
Shabana Azmi reminisces about the release of Fire in Spain, sharing joyful moments with Deepa Mehta and Nandita Das.
Mumbai, October 18 (Daily Kiran) : Veteran actress Shabana Azmi recently took a nostalgic trip down memory lane, recalling the release of her acclaimed film “Fire” in Spain. On Sunday, she shared a delightful photo on her official Instagram account featuring director Deepa Mehta and co-star Nandita Das.
In the snapshot, the trio appears joyful, flashing bright smiles at the camera. Azmi captioned the post, “Had a wonderful time with Deepa Mehta and Nandita Das during the release of ‘Fire’ in Spain.”
Earlier this April, Shabana reunited with the team from her 1996 film, sharing another photo where both she and Deepa donned matching black outfits and shawls, while Nandita looked stunning in a vibrant yellow saree. Standing between them, Nandita embraced both actresses affectionately.
Azmi humorously noted in her caption, “Deepa and I wore the same shawls by coincidence. Thankfully, Nandita chose to wear yellow.”
“Fire” is the first installment of Deepa Mehta’s “Elements” trilogy, which also includes “Earth” (1998) and “Water” (2005). The film’s narrative is believed to be inspired by Ismat Chughtai’s 1942 story “Lihaaf.” It is considered one of the early mainstream Hindi films to openly address lesbian relationships. Following its release, the film sparked significant controversy, igniting public discussions on homosexuality and freedom of expression.
Produced under the banners of Kaleidoscope Entertainment and Trial by Fire Films, the film features music by Oscar-winning composer A.R. Rahman. The cinematography was handled by Giles Nuttgens, while editing was managed by Barry Farrell.
