Chennai, April 20: The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Chennai has issued a warning about the likelihood of extreme heat in the interior districts of Tamil Nadu over the next five days. Temperatures are expected to rise above normal levels.
According to the latest weather bulletin, maximum temperatures in the state’s interior regions may exceed seasonal averages by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius.
Meanwhile, the weather department has predicted light rain in some isolated areas until April 21, particularly along the Western Ghats and coastal regions of southern Tamil Nadu. This rainfall is attributed to local weather disturbances associated with a low-pressure system.
Additionally, on April 22 and 23, there is a possibility of light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder in districts along the Western Ghats, delta regions, and Karaikal.
Intermittent rainfall may provide temporary relief from the prevailing heat; however, it is unlikely to significantly alter the overall temperature trend across the state.
The weather department has warned residents of coastal Tamil Nadu and Puducherry about the potential for high humidity and elevated temperatures. This situation could lead to discomfort and heat-related stress. In Chennai and its suburbs, there is a likelihood of partly cloudy skies in the coming days.
Although significant rainfall is not forecasted for the city, high humidity levels are expected, making the temperatures feel warmer than recorded.
Officials have advised the public to take necessary precautions, including staying hydrated, avoiding direct sunlight during peak heat hours, and being vigilant about symptoms of heat-related illnesses.
This weather pattern emerges as the state experiences its peak heat season, with authorities closely monitoring developments to provide timely advisories.
