Anantnag, July 11: In a significant security operation for the Shri Amarnath Yatra in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district, police have apprehended a suspected Over Ground Worker (OGW) using Facial Recognition System (FRS) technology. The arrest occurred at the X-ray point of the Nunwan base camp, where the FRS promptly alerted authorities.
Upon receiving the alert, security personnel acted swiftly to stop and investigate an individual. The suspect was identified as Mohammad Iqbal Wani, a resident of the Hajin area in Bandipora district and son of Ali Mohammad Wani. During the investigation, it was confirmed that he was indeed an Over Ground Worker, leading to his detention for further legal action and questioning.
Anantnag police reported that security measures have been enhanced to ensure the safe and smooth conduct of the Amarnath Yatra. Modern technology, including the Facial Recognition System, is being utilized to monitor travel routes and entry points, allowing for timely identification of suspicious activities.
