Second Test: South Africa Opt to Bat, India Make Two Changes Under Pant’s Captaincy

Guwahati, 22 November (Daily Kiran). South Africa won the toss and elected to bat in the ongoing second Test against India at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium. With Shubman Gill unavailable, Rishabh Pant is leading the Indian side. India have made two changes for this must-win match.

Second Test

Sai Sudharsan and Nitish Kumar Reddy have been included in the playing XI, replacing Shubman Gill and Axar Patel. South Africa have made one change, with Senuran Muthusamy coming in for Corbin Bosch.

Gill was ruled out after suffering an injury while batting in the Kolkata Test. Pant has been handed the leadership role in his absence, becoming India’s 38th Test captain and the second wicketkeeper after MS Dhoni to lead the team in Test cricket.

India lost the first Test in Kolkata by 30 runs despite gaining a 30-run lead in the first innings. South Africa posted 159, after which India responded with 189. South Africa then set a target of 124, but India were bowled out for just 93.

India will look to win this match and level the series 1-1, while South Africa aim for a 2-0 clean sweep.
