Bhopal, August 13: A significant number of children in Madhya Pradesh’s Balaghat district have been affected by a seasonal illness. The administration claims that most children have returned home after recovery, while opposition leader Umang Singhar alleges that nine children have died.
Reports indicate that a total of 117 children from the villages of Kundekasa, Adori, Korka, and Bondari in the Birsa development block have been admitted to the district hospital in Balaghat due to various illnesses, including cold, cough, fever, skin diseases, measles, scabies, typhoid, and malaria, as of August 13.
On the same day, four children from Korka village were discharged from the hospital after recovering. So far, 97 children have fully recovered and returned home, while 20 children remain hospitalized. The health condition of all hospitalized children is reported as stable and satisfactory, and they are out of danger.
The health department has deployed 20 survey teams to conduct door-to-door health screenings in the affected villages. Ten medical officers and four ambulances have been arranged to examine sick individuals and transport them to the hospital if necessary.
Meanwhile, opposition leader Umang Singhar has accused the administration of nine child fatalities in Balaghat and is currently addressing the treatment of affected children.
Following the outbreak in the villages of Kundekasa, Korka, and Bondari, the health department initiated door-to-door surveys on July 12. By August 13, a total of 2,220 individuals had been examined during these surveys. Among those examined, 190 were found to have malaria, 98 suffered from diarrhea, 88 had fever with rashes, and 143 were diagnosed with skin diseases.
In total, 519 patients were identified during the surveys, with 402 recovering at home. The hospital has admitted 117 patients, of whom 97 have been discharged, leaving 20 still receiving treatment.
