New Delhi, August 5: Spending long hours at a desk can lead to various physical and mental issues. Regular exercise, a balanced diet, and yoga can help alleviate these problems. Among the yoga poses, Padahastasana is particularly effective, gradually providing relief to the body.
Padahastasana is a yoga pose derived from three words: ‘pada’ (foot), ‘hasta’ (hand), and ‘asana’ (pose). In this pose, practitioners grasp their feet with their hands, hence the name Padahastasana.
In today’s lifestyle, where many of us spend significant time hunched over mobile devices or computers, this pose offers relief to the spine and enhances energy flow throughout the body.
The Ministry of AYUSH has provided recommendations regarding this pose. According to their guidelines, regular practice of Padahastasana can help alleviate issues such as stress, stiffness, poor digestion, and low energy. This simple pose increases flexibility, strengthens the digestive system, calms the mind, and alleviates physical tension through deep forward stretching.
Practicing this pose increases blood flow to the head, benefiting the brain and eyes. It also helps calm the mind and reduce stress.
To perform Padahastasana, stand with your feet together. As you exhale, bend forward at the waist and try to place your hands on the ground near your feet. Beginners can slightly bend their knees if needed. Hold the position for a few seconds before slowly returning to a standing position. This pose can be practiced 3 to 5 times daily.
Beginners should seek guidance from a qualified instructor and always pay attention to their limits while practicing yoga. Overexertion can lead to injuries. Additionally, individuals with serious health conditions, recent surgeries, or pregnant women should consult a yoga expert before attempting this pose.
