In a significant move to drive electric mobility adoption in India, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India has rolled out a game-changing update for its popular electric scooter, the Honda Activa E. The company has introduced an extremely affordable battery rental plan, dramatically lowering the entry barrier for urban commuters keen to shift to EVs without the high upfront cost of battery ownership.

BaaS Lite Plan: Affordable Battery Rental Now at ₹678

Honda’s new Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) Lite plan offers battery rental for just ₹678 per month (excluding GST), providing an economical alternative for city riders. The plan includes 20kWh of monthly energy, translating to an estimated 600 km of range—perfect for daily commutes and short city rides.

Previously, the higher cost of battery subscription discouraged many potential buyers. With this revision, the Activa E now emerges as a compelling choice for value-conscious consumers seeking a reliable electric alternative to petrol scooters.

How the BaaS Lite Plan Works

Under the Lite plan, riders can use up to 20kWh of energy each month. If usage exceeds this limit, an additional charge of ₹70 per extra kWh is applied. Given that average daily commutes typically remain within this allowance, most users are unlikely to incur significant overage fees.

Additional Subscription Options

Recognising varied commuting needs, Honda also offers two other flexible battery subscription plans:

  • Basic Plan: ₹1,999/month — includes 35kWh (~1,040 km estimated range), ₹35 per extra kWh.

  • Advanced Plan: ₹3,599/month — includes 87kWh (~2,600 km estimated range), ₹35 per extra kWh.

These plans ensure that both light and heavy users have affordable choices based on their riding patterns.

What Sets Honda Activa E Apart

The Activa E is equipped with two swappable 1.5kWh battery packs, offering up to 102 km of range on a full charge. Prices start at ₹1.17 lakh (ex-showroom) and go up to ₹1.51 lakh for the top variant.

With dual battery capability, users enjoy enhanced flexibility—charging can be done at home or swapped at Honda’s battery swapping stations. This ease of use is one of the standout features for everyday city riders.

New EV Concept Store Opens in Bengaluru

Further boosting its electric initiative, Honda has inaugurated its first EV Concept Store in Bengaluru. The store features interactive tech displays, LED zones, child-friendly areas, and hands-on experiences with Honda’s electric models, including the Activa E and QC1.

This experiential space is designed to promote awareness, educate users about EV safety, and reinforce Honda’s commitment to India’s growing electric vehicle market.

Why This Move Matters

Earlier, Honda’s BaaS model was seen as expensive by many potential buyers, which slowed the Activa E’s adoption. With this cost-effective Lite plan, Honda aims to address that gap and encourage more commuters to consider the switch to EVs.

Now with an affordable battery subscription and Honda’s brand trust, the Activa E stands out as an intelligent and economical choice for India’s urban riders looking to transition to electric mobility.
