Mumbai, March 17: Every year, millions of devotees visit Kedarnath and Badrinath temples. However, this year, a significant change has emerged before the pilgrimage season begins. Devotees wishing to visit these holy sites must now prove their faith by submitting an affidavit. This decision has sparked considerable discussion, particularly regarding Bollywood actress Sara Ali Khan.
Hemant Dwivedi, chairman of the Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee, stated that if Sara Ali Khan visits Kedarnath, she too will need to submit an affidavit affirming her faith in Sanatan Dharma. Only then will she be granted entry to the temple.
The decision was made during a meeting of the temple committee, which determined that entry to Kedarnath, Badrinath, and several other temples will be restricted for non-Sanatanis. Dwivedi explained that individuals, regardless of their background, can express their faith in Sanatan Dharma and submit an affidavit to gain temple access.
He added that if a prominent figure like Sara Ali Khan visits Kedarnath, expresses her faith, and submits the affidavit, she will not be denied entry.
Sara Ali Khan is particularly connected to Kedarnath, having launched her film career with the movie ‘Kedarnath,’ which was shot in the region. She frequently visits the temple, and numerous photos and videos of her worshipping there have gone viral on social media.
In addition to Sara, Jacqueline Fernandez has also visited Kedarnath, doing so in 2023. Actress Nusrat Bharucha visited in 2024, and TV star Hina Khan has also made the pilgrimage.
Under the new rules, affidavits will be made available to devotees within the temple complex, allowing them to affirm their faith before gaining entry. This change may alter the process of temple visits significantly.
