Sanju Samson Shares IPL Debut Story of Vaibhav Suryawanshi at Naman Awards

New Delhi, March 16: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) hosted the Naman Awards ceremony in New Delhi on Sunday. This annual event honors Indian cricketers and was particularly special this year, as it celebrated the achievements of the Indian women’s team, which won the Women’s World Cup 2025, the men’s T20 World Cup 2026, and the Under-19 World Cup.

During the ceremony, Sanju Samson shared an anecdote about Vaibhav Suryawanshi, who was part of the Under-19 World Cup-winning team. Vaibhav plays for the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL and made his debut against LSG in 2025, becoming the youngest player to debut in the IPL.

Samson recounted a conversation between Vaibhav and Rahul Dravid before his debut match. “I was actually in a meeting when Rahul sir called him into the room and said, ‘Sanju, we need to talk to him. He’s very young; we need to explain how to go about it,'” Samson shared.

Dravid asked Vaibhav about his game plan for the match. Vaibhav replied, “Nothing sir, we will just play.” When Dravid pressed for a more detailed strategy, Vaibhav confidently stated, “If we get the first ball, we will hit it out of the park.”

Samson noted that Vaibhav indeed executed his plan perfectly, likening it to playing his own video game. In his debut match, he hit a six off the very first ball bowled by all-rounder Shardul Thakur.

Over the past year, Vaibhav Suryawanshi has established himself as an explosive batsman and played a crucial role in leading India to victory in the Under-19 World Cup 2026. Fans will be keenly watching his performance in IPL 2026.
