Prayagraj, September 19 (Daily Kiran) : Uttar Pradesh Minister Sanjay Nishad made significant remarks regarding Nishad reservation and the constitutional protection of his community during a recent event in Prayagraj. Amid speculation about political discontent, Nishad clarified that his struggle is not for a position of power but for the constitutional identity and rights of his community.
He stated that their demand is for social justice and recognition, not political gain. Addressing rumors about his alliance with the BJP, he dismissed any notions of dissatisfaction, asserting that there is no cause for concern.
Nishad highlighted a pressing issue, saying, “Those who are denying our rights may also talk about removing the SC-ST Protection Act. Our demand is to be recognized as SC instead of OBC, and to receive the corresponding certificates along with constitutional protection. We are fighting for our rights ourselves.”
He mentioned that he had spoken with the district officer that morning, who assured him that action would be taken against wrongdoers to prevent future occurrences.
The minister emphasized unity among his people, stating, “Regardless of the party or ideology, we share the same blood. We will fight together for our rights. Those attempting to infringe on our rights will not be spared.”
Nishad underscored the importance of the SC-ST Protection Act, explaining that it safeguards the Nishad community. “This is the same Nishad community that contributed to the country’s independence. While we are referred to as Majhwar and Turha in the Constitution, our rights have been stripped away by being classified as OBC.”
He also noted that on December 31, 2016, the governor had declared that this caste is no longer backward, yet previous governments failed to create a new list. “If they genuinely wish to help Nishads, we should be separated from the 27 percent OBC quota and included in the SC category with proper certification,” he insisted.
In response to questions about any discontent within the party, Nishad confirmed that he attended meetings and had social interactions with key BJP figures, including state in-charge Vinod Tawde. He expressed gratitude for Tawde’s visit, emphasizing that it was a social gathering, free from political discussions. He conveyed that he updated Tawde on community issues, reinforcing that his party has been proactive regarding reservation matters since 2022, with ongoing efforts for social justice.
