Hyderabad, April 21: Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Sanjay Kumar, has accused Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy of attempting to conceal alleged corruption linked to the family of former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR).
During a press conference, Kumar stated that during the 2023 elections, Revanth Reddy claimed that the Kaleshwaram project, initiated by the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) government, was marred by ₹1 lakh crore in corruption. However, after assuming office, Revanth Reddy reportedly requested the CBI to limit its investigation to the construction of only three barrages—Medigadda, Annaram, and Sundilla—which represent just ₹9,000 crore of the total project cost.
Kumar argued that a thorough investigation into the entire ₹1 lakh crore Kaleshwaram project is essential to uncover KCR’s alleged corruption. He criticized Revanth Reddy for only seeking a CBI inquiry into the three barrages, which he claimed were built with flawed designs.
He challenged Revanth Reddy to demonstrate his courage by formally requesting the CBI to investigate the entire Kaleshwaram scandal involving ₹1 lakh crore.
The BJP leader further alleged that KCR and Revanth Reddy have colluded, stating that despite publicly insulting each other, they are united in exploiting the people of Telangana. He remarked that both leaders have become a double trouble for the state.
Kumar announced that the BJP will soon send a letter to the people of Telangana detailing the transactions between KCR and Revanth Reddy, along with their theatrics regarding the Kaleshwaram project.
Additionally, Kumar accused Congress and BRS of misrepresenting comments made by BJP MP Tejasvi Surya. He noted that Surya had personally informed him about drawing parallels between the Telangana movement activists and patriots of the nation. Kumar recalled that during the partition of the country, millions lost their lives due to the policies of the Congress party and the British. Surya highlighted that 1,400 lives were sacrificed due to mistakes made by Congress regarding the Telangana issue.
Surya made these remarks during a debate on the Women’s Reservation Bill in the Lok Sabha last week, which sparked significant outrage among non-BJP parties in Telangana.
Kumar also alleged that Surya compared the division of Andhra Pradesh to the partition of India, leading to demands from Congress leaders, including Telangana Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, for the Lok Sabha Speaker to remove Surya’s comments from the parliamentary record and initiate action against him.
