Samajwadi Party Dominates Ambedkarnagar in Uttar Pradesh Elections 2022

The Samajwadi Party secured four out of five assembly seats in Ambedkarnagar, reshaping the political landscape ahead of 2027 elections.

Ambedkarnagar, November 2 (Daily Kiran) : The recent Uttar Pradesh assembly elections have showcased a significant victory for the Samajwadi Party (SP) in Ambedkarnagar district. Out of the five assembly seats, SP candidates won four, while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) claimed one. The winning seats for the SP include Akbarpur, Alapur, Jalalpur, and Tanda, whereas the BJP-Nishad Party alliance took the Katehari seat.

The electoral battle in Ambedkarnagar was highly competitive. In some areas, SP candidates won by substantial margins, while in others, close contests emerged between BJP and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) candidates. Key issues influencing the elections included caste dynamics, local concerns, development initiatives, law and order, employment, and agricultural challenges.

In Akbarpur, SP candidate Ram Achal Rajbhar secured victory, marking a critical win for the party. He defeated BJP’s Dharmraj Nishad, BSP’s Chandraprakash Verma, and Congress’s Priyanka Jaiswal. Akbarpur is politically significant, with a considerable number of Dalit voters and influences from Brahmin, Kurmi, Rajbhar, and Nishad communities.

Historically, Akbarpur has been a battleground for various parties. The BSP first won this seat in 1993, with Rajbhar initially being a BSP candidate. His recent win has reignited discussions about the political dynamics in the region.

In Alapur, SP’s Tribhuvan Datt emerged victorious, overcoming BJP’s Triveni Ram, Congress’s Satyamvada Paswan, and BSP’s Keshra Devi Gautam. This assembly seat is reserved for Scheduled Castes, where Dalit and Yadav voters play crucial roles. The political landscape shifted significantly since the 2017 elections when BJP’s Anita Kamal won, benefiting from a favorable wave.

Rakesh Pandey of the SP won decisively in Jalalpur, defeating BSP’s Rajesh Singh by a margin of 13,630 votes. This seat has been pivotal in the Uttar Pradesh assembly, with local development, employment, law and order, and caste equations being central issues.

The Katehari assembly seat saw a unique contest, with the BJP-Nishad alliance candidate, Avadhesh Kumar, winning against SP’s Lalji Verma. This contest highlighted the ongoing influence of caste dynamics and local political factors.

Finally, in Tanda, SP candidate Ram Murti Verma achieved a remarkable victory over BJP’s Kapil Dev by a margin of 32,097 votes. The election discussions here revolved around local development, employment, and agricultural issues.

The results from Ambedkarnagar have significantly altered the political equations, setting the stage for the next assembly elections in 2027.
