West Bengal Government Prepares for Diwali and Kali Puja Festivities Amid Security Concerns
West Bengal government intensifies preparations for Diwali and Kali Puja, assigning cabinet ministers to oversee law and order during the festivities.

Khargpur, November 2 (Daily Kiran) : The West Bengal government is ramping up its preparations for the upcoming Diwali, Kali Puja, and Jagaddhatri Puja to ensure a peaceful and organized celebration. Minister Dilip Ghosh announced that the government is closely monitoring the situation to maintain law and order during the festivities. Each cabinet minister has been assigned responsibility for a specific district to prevent any unpleasant incidents, allowing residents to celebrate with enthusiasm.
Ghosh emphasized that the government’s priority is to ensure that these celebrations are peaceful not only in Kolkata but throughout West Bengal. The administration has received necessary directives, and law enforcement will be under constant surveillance.
In Kolkata, police have implemented special traffic restrictions in anticipation of the Kali Puja celebrations and subsequent idol immersion processions. According to a notification from the police, heavy vehicles will be banned on several major roads from November 8 to 11. Additionally, parking and passenger pick-up and drop-off will be restricted in certain areas.
Meanwhile, responding to former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s statements at Ramleela Maidan in Delhi, Ghosh criticized her, stating that she once aspired to be a national leader but now finds herself without any significant role. He noted that she is no longer a public representative and is now forced to regard Sonia Gandhi as her leader. Ghosh claimed that Banerjee’s party has weakened, allowing her to act as she sees fit.
On the topic of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), Ghosh addressed the announcement to grant citizenship to 250,000 individuals in West Bengal by December 31, 2026. He mentioned that many have yet to apply due to a lack of information. The government will soon make the necessary arrangements, assuring that no Hindu refugee from Bangladesh will be denied citizenship.
Additionally, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari has also spoken about expediting the citizenship application process, aiming to meet the December 31 deadline. He announced a budget of 50 crore rupees for the development of the Matua community and plans to issue Scheduled Caste certificates to eligible applicants who obtain citizenship.
