Iran Claims Oil Tanker Explosions Linked to Naval Mines in Strait of Hormuz
Irans IRGC reports explosions involving oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz, attributing them to naval mines amid heightened tensions.

Tehran, November 2 (Daily Kiran) : Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has reported that two oil tankers, labeled as “rule violators,” were involved in explosions in the Strait of Hormuz. The incidents occurred within the last few hours, with both tankers allegedly colliding with naval mines.
In a statement released on Sunday through its official outlet, Sepah News, the IRGC’s naval division indicated that the tankers were navigating through an “unauthorized” route in the critical waterway. According to the Xinhua news agency, one of the supertankers experienced a “massive explosion” and was seen engulfed in flames. Reports also noted that both vessels had disabled their navigation and identification systems.
Iran has intensified its control over the Strait since February 28, restricting the safe passage of Israeli and American vessels or any associated ships. This move followed a series of joint attacks on Iranian territory.
Earlier, IRGC spokesperson Hossein Mohebbi stated that Iranian forces had established a significant battlefield to inflict damage on what they termed the “enemy.” At a conference in southeastern Kerman province on the same day, Mohebbi emphasized that Iranian forces are now more prepared than ever to deliver a decisive response to threats.
He referenced recent orders from Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei to senior military commanders, suggesting that these directives have initiated “a new chapter of warfare.” Mohebbi specifically highlighted Khamenei’s assertion that there are no geographical limits to warfare with the United States. He mentioned that the IRGC’s agenda now includes identifying new enemy positions and planning operations in different geographical areas.
On Saturday, a statement indicated that Khamenei had instructed senior armed forces commanders to respond “immediately and effectively” to any threats from adversaries, regardless of their nature or origin.
These warnings come amid escalating threats of military action against Iran from the United States. According to The Wall Street Journal, U.S. military officials briefed President Donald Trump on options related to Iran last Thursday. The report noted that the U.S. has advised several Gulf nations to prepare for a potential, brief, but intense military campaign against Iran following the upcoming midterm elections.
