Ayodhya, August 16: The decision to implement a dress code at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya has been welcomed by the saints’ community. They have urged devotees to wear traditional Indian attire and requested the trust to extend the dress code to visitors as well.
During a conversation with a news agency, Jagatguru Paramhans Acharya, the head of the Tapasvi Chhauni, stated, “Having a dress code at the temple of Lord Ram is a positive step. Just as the deity’s attire changes, there should be designated colors for each day of the week. The consent of the priests is essential, and they should be consulted. The dress code should not be imposed on the priests; instead, they should be provided with the attire, indicating that they will receive clothes in the seven colors for the week.”
On the occasion of Independence Day, Acharya also addressed the ‘Vande Mataram‘ controversy, advising all esteemed MPs not to disrespect the national song. He emphasized that there should be limits to accusations and counter-accusations, warning against crossing the line of nationalism. He expressed pride in the MPs who stood when ‘Vande Mataram’ was played.
Mahant Sitaram Das from Saket Bhawan reacted to the ‘Vande Mataram’ issue and welcomed the dress code at the Ram Temple. He expressed gratitude for the dress code for priests and requested that a similar code be applied to devotees visiting Ram Lalla. He emphasized that devotees should wear Indian attire to promote the identity of our culture and values worldwide.
Deveshacharya Maharaj, a priest from Hanumangarhi, welcomed the decision on the dress code, noting that discussions had been ongoing. He mentioned that the selected attire for priests includes traditional dhoti and angavastra. He urged the trust to prohibit inappropriate clothing among devotees.
Deveshacharya Maharaj described the ‘Vande Mataram’ controversy as unfortunate, criticizing Congress leaders like Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, and Mallikarjun Kharge for undermining the message of patriotism. He stressed that no one in the country should face discomfort regarding the national song ‘Vande Mataram.’
Swami Gopalacharya Maharaj, president of the All India Saints Committee in Rishikesh, criticized Rahul Gandhi’s comments related to ‘Vande Mataram’ and supported the dress code for priests at the Ram Temple, stating it aligns with traditional practices.
He noted that the dress code reflects a high level of ideology and raised concerns about how the rule will be enforced. In our tradition, wearing stitched clothes in the sanctum is not permitted, as stitched garments are viewed as impure.
Swami Gopalacharya Maharaj remarked that the entire nation celebrated Independence Day as a national festival. He expressed pride in having the opportunity to remember the freedom fighters who contributed to the country’s liberation.
He added that on August 15, the nation also witnessed Congress leadership disrespecting the national song by not singing it in full. This indicates the level of commitment Congress has towards the nation, which has hurt nationalists and will likely reflect in the upcoming elections. The national song was not imposed by the BJP.
