Rohit Sharma Should Not Be Just an Impact Player, MI Must Utilize Him Fully: Kaif

New Delhi, March 26: Former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif believes that the Mumbai Indians (MI) should not limit Rohit Sharma’s role to just an ‘impact player’ in IPL 2026. Instead, he argues that Rohit should be on the field for the entire T20 match.

Rohit Sharma is the highest run-scorer for Mumbai Indians in IPL history, amassing 7,046 runs at an average of 29.73 over 272 matches, including 2 centuries and 47 half-centuries.

Despite his record, he was frequently used as an ‘impact player’ last season. Kaif disagrees with this approach, especially considering that Hardik Pandya needed Rohit’s support during the second qualifier against Punjab Kings, which MI lost after a stellar innings from Shreyas Iyer.

On Thursday, Kaif tweeted that MI should fully utilize a fit Rohit Sharma. He believes that the five-time IPL-winning captain’s presence is essential in challenging situations, and it would also benefit captain Hardik Pandya.

Kaif wrote on the social media platform X, “Mumbai Indians must make full use of a fitter and learning Rohit Sharma. He cannot just be an impact player. MI will need him in tough situations, and his advice will be invaluable to captain Hardik Pandya. Last year in Qualifier 2 against Kings XI, when Shreyas Iyer was batting brilliantly, Hardik needed Rohit by his side. Being fully involved in the game will also benefit batsman Rohit.”

Rohit’s performance last season was underwhelming, with only 240 runs to his name. The opener will be looking to regain his form in the upcoming season.
