Mumbai, June 3: Rohit Pawar, a leader from the NCP (Sharad Pawar faction), targeted the state government during a recent conversation. He stated that prior to the elections, the government distributed funds to around 2.5 crore women under the ‘Ladki Bahin Yojana’, but now millions of these women have been deemed ineligible.
Pawar expressed that the general public, especially women, are struggling with rising prices and government policies. He accused the government of announcing the ‘Ladki Bahin Yojana’ just before the elections to sway public opinion. Initially, millions of women benefited from this scheme, with some receiving advance payments just months before the elections. However, post-elections, many beneficiaries have started disappearing from the list. This raises the question of whether the scheme was genuinely aimed at empowering women or merely a part of an electoral strategy.
He further alleged that the government’s attitude shifts immediately after elections. The same government that shows empathy towards the public during elections distances itself from their problems afterward. Pawar asserted that women will respond to this in the upcoming elections.
Addressing the issue of inflation, Pawar expressed concern over the rising prices of petrol and diesel. In several areas, petrol prices have surged to around ₹110 to ₹112 per liter, while diesel is nearing ₹100. Additionally, the continuous increase in domestic gas cylinder prices is disrupting the budgets of ordinary families.
He also raised the issue of rising commercial gas cylinder prices. Small businesses, such as vada pav stalls, poha vendors, tea shops, and small restaurants, are the most affected by these rising costs. When their expenses increase, it directly impacts the public, as food prices rise.
Pawar emphasized that inflation affects not just traders but every segment of society. He provided examples, stating that whether it’s a salaried employee, a police constable, or someone working in the IT sector, all are feeling the impact of rising prices, while their incomes are not increasing proportionately.
He accused the government of being more focused on political activities rather than addressing the issues faced by the common people.
