New Delhi, March 24: The uncontested re-election of Nitish Kumar as the national president of the Janata Dal-United (JD(U)) on Tuesday has drawn sharp reactions from leaders of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD). Misa Bharti and Tejashwi Yadav launched political attacks, addressing issues ranging from dynastic politics to internal decisions of the ruling party.
In response to this development, RJD MP Misa Bharti remarked that while it is a positive development for Nitish Kumar to once again lead the JD(U), she quickly criticized him for his contradictory stance on dynastic politics as the Chief Minister of Bihar.
Bharti referenced the recent political entry of Kumar’s son, Nishant Kumar, stating, “The best thing about Nitish Kumar now is that he will no longer speak against dynastic politics. He has brought his son into politics. So at least now he cannot criticize dynastic politics.”
She further added, “I wish him (Nitish Kumar) all the best. May he remain healthy and at least achieve the position of Deputy Prime Minister when he comes to Delhi. That is our wish for him.”
Meanwhile, Tejashwi Yadav, the Leader of the Opposition in the Bihar Assembly, questioned Kumar’s dominance within his own party, alleging that real power lies elsewhere.
Tejashwi accused Kumar of becoming the JD(U) president while decisions are not being made by him. He claimed that three or four individuals within the JD(U) are actually making decisions while projecting Kumar as the leader.
He also alleged a collusion with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) aimed at weakening the JD(U) from within. The Opposition leader asserted that they have devised a plan with the BJP to eliminate the JD(U) and are actively working on it.
Due to the absence of any other candidates submitting nomination papers by the March 22 deadline, the scheduled internal elections became moot, leading to Kumar’s uncontested re-election as the national president of the JD(U).
This marks another term for the seasoned leader at the helm of the JD(U), further solidifying his grip on the party’s organizational structure.
