Dhaka, March 3: Amid escalating military tensions in the Middle East, at least two Bangladeshi citizens have lost their lives, and seven others have been injured due to missile and drone attacks across various countries. The Bangladeshi Foreign Ministry confirmed this on Monday.
This incident follows a series of joint attacks by the United States and Israel on Iran, aimed at weakening Tehran’s missile capabilities and military infrastructure. In retaliation, Iran has launched missile and drone strikes towards several nations.
According to the Foreign Ministry, Saleh Ahmed, a resident of the Barekha area in the Sylhet district, died when debris from an airstrike in Ajman, United Arab Emirates, struck him.
The ministry reported that the Bangladeshi embassy in the UAE is in contact with local authorities and will provide necessary assistance for repatriating the body once commercial flights resume.
Additionally, another Bangladeshi citizen was killed in Bahrain, with three others reported injured. The Bangladesh mission in Manama is in continuous communication with local officials regarding the situation.
In Kuwait, four Bangladeshis—Aminul Islam, Rabiuul Islam, Masudur Rahman, and Dulal Miah—were injured during a drone attack near the civilian airport. The ministry stated that all have received necessary medical treatment and are reported to be in stable condition. The Bangladeshi embassy in Kuwait is in contact with them, and the ambassador has personally visited the hospital.
Separately, a vessel from the Bangladesh Shipping Corporation, Banglar Joyjatra, is currently stranded at the Jebel Ali Port in the UAE. The embassy is in regular contact with the ship’s captain, and all crew members are reported safe.
The Bangladeshi Foreign Ministry has expressed deep concern over the deteriorating situation in West Asia, emphasizing that the safety and security of over six million Bangladeshi citizens residing in the region is its top priority.
Embassies in the relevant countries have been instructed to issue advisories to citizens and to strictly adhere to the directives of host governments.
