
Beijing, August 5: This summer, ‘China Travel’ has captured the attention of tourists worldwide through various forms such as relief from the heat, experiential tourism, shopping trips, and cultural tours.
A survey conducted by the China Global Television Network (CGTN), under the China Media Group (CMG), revealed that 92.9% of respondents believe the growing popularity of ‘China Travel’ reflects an increasing interest in China within the international community.
From China’s famous mountains and rivers to historical sites, traditional Chinese attire like Hanfu and Qipao, and the emerging tea culture, foreign tourists are consistently adding new experiences to their travel lists in China.
When asked about their preferred types of tourism experiences in China, 54.7% of respondents favored historical and cultural sites such as the Great Wall and the Forbidden City. Natural landscapes, unique cultural experiences, and modern urban life in China followed in second, third, and fourth place, respectively.
There is also significant enthusiasm among foreign tourists for Chinese cuisine. The survey indicated that 55.5% of participants expressed interest in traditional Chinese dishes. Following this, popular internet dishes, new tea varieties, and local specialties were also favored.
Regarding products they wish to purchase during their visit to China, 48.3% of respondents preferred tech products and smart devices. Meanwhile, 23.3% opted for Chinese cultural and creative products, 18.7% for specialty foods and snacks, and 9.6% for traditional Chinese clothing and fashion items.
According to the Chinese National Immigration Administration, the number of foreigners visiting China reached 22,914,000 in the first half of this year, marking a 20.4% increase compared to the same period last year. This figure highlights the growing interest of foreign tourists in China.
The survey also revealed that 92.8% of respondents stated that content related to travel in China on social media continuously inspires them to understand and visit the country. Additionally, 87% believe that personally traveling to China helps them gain a more comprehensive and authentic understanding of Chinese culture, society, and development.
Notably, the number of foreigners entering China through visa-free access reached 17,815,000 in the first half of this year, a 30.6% increase from the previous year. Various measures taken by China to facilitate travel have attracted more foreign tourists.
The survey indicated that 92.2% of respondents believe that mobile payments, high-speed rail, and shared mobility have become essential parts of the tourism experience in China. Furthermore, 91.8% noted that continuous improvements in visa and cross-border travel facilities have increased the desire of foreign tourists to visit China. Additionally, 79.6% of respondents expressed interest in obtaining travel information through local Chinese mobile applications to learn about popular tourist destinations and experiences.
This survey was conducted across CGTN’s platforms in English, Spanish, French, Arabic, and Russian, with 7,085 netizens participating within 24 hours to share their opinions.
