Bhopal, May 19: The recent hike in petrol and diesel prices has drawn sharp criticism from Jitu Patwari, the president of the Congress party’s Madhya Pradesh unit. He accused the BJP government of failing to control inflation, calling their claims misleading.
On Tuesday, fuel prices increased for the second time, with petrol and diesel rising by nearly 90 paise per liter. Patwari took to the social media platform X to express his concerns, stating that the cost of diesel and petrol has surged again. In just four days, the prices have gone up by ₹3.90 per liter. He emphasized that each price hike impacts every household, making food costlier for families, increasing expenses for farmers, and complicating life for the middle class.
Patwari further questioned the BJP government, asking how long the public must endure this inflation under the guise of “good days.”
Opposition leader Umang Singhar also criticized the central government for the fuel price increase, posting on X, “Another new day, another blow, and new atrocities—this is the BJP government.”
The rising prices are attributed to the geopolitical situation in West Asia, which has directly affected the supply of diesel and petrol, leading to increased costs. Globally, petroleum prices are also on the rise, and India is not immune to these trends.
So far, the government has raised fuel prices twice: initially by ₹3 per liter, followed by the latest increase of nearly 90 paise. The Congress party continues to hold the BJP government accountable for its failure to manage inflation effectively.
