Gautam Buddha Nagar, September 15 (Daily Kiran) : Thousands of farmers, women, and youth gathered in Gautam Buddha Nagar on September 15 for a major rally organized by the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU). The event, known as a “Mahapanchayat,” aimed to voice their long-standing demands to the administration and government. National spokesperson Rakesh Tikait addressed the crowd, emphasizing the need for urgent action on farmers’ issues.
After the rally, many farmers marched to the Yamuna Authority office. They sat on the road in protest against police efforts to block their progress and strict measures taken against their movement. The atmosphere grew tense as farmers chanted slogans against the police and government. Tikait made it clear that the protest would continue until their demands were met.
He stated, “The sit-in will last until our demands are fulfilled.” Tikait criticized the authorities for failing to address their issues despite repeated assurances. Farmers expressed growing frustration over unfulfilled promises. They collectively presented their key demands to the administration, which include a 64.7% additional compensation, plots under the 10% farmer quota, and the immediate resolution of pending land issues.
Other demands included stopping alleged black marketing of fertilizers, ensuring adequate water supply in canals, and reversing increased electricity rates. Farmers also called for clarity on the wrongful acquisition of land, insisting that those affected should receive their rightful benefits according to regulations. Additionally, they emphasized the need for job opportunities for local youth at the upcoming Jewar Airport.
The Mahapanchayat also highlighted the need for 120-square-meter plots for landless farmers. They urged the government to take concrete steps to rehabilitate those who have lost their land due to development projects. Rakesh Tikait affirmed that farmers would not back down from their demands, and the protest would persist until a permanent solution is found.
He urged the administration to seriously consider their requests and make timely decisions. According to the BKU, farmers are currently stationed outside the Noida, Greater Noida, and Yamuna authorities. Leaders warned that if positive action is not taken soon, the protest could escalate further.
