Remembering the Tragedy of Nadimarg: Ashok Pandit Reflects on the 22nd Anniversary of the Massacre

Mumbai, March 24: The Nadimarg massacre, which took place in 2003, marks its 22nd anniversary this year. On the night of March 23, terrorists from Lashkar-e-Taiba brutally murdered 24 Kashmiri Pandits in the village of Nadimarg, located in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district. On this solemn occasion, Kashmiri Pandit, filmmaker, and social activist Ashok Pandit expressed deep emotions.

In a heartfelt post on Instagram, Ashok Pandit wrote, “Never forget, never forgive. The world must stop pretending that nothing happened. India must not turn a blind eye to this truth. This massacre must not be forgotten.”

He further stated, “The deserted homes of Nadimarg stand as silent witnesses to that massacre. They demand remembrance for every voice silenced and every soul displaced. History calls for justice.”

Linking the past to the present, he remarked, “Twenty-two years ago, Hindus were lined up and shot in Nadimarg. Today, tourists have been killed in Pahalgam. The same ideology, the same target, the same silence.”

Ashok Pandit paid tribute to the victims of the Nadimarg massacre while expressing grave concern over the continued targeting of minorities. He wrote, “Their sacrifice has created a silence in our hearts that will never fade. As long as we continue to forget, we are doomed to repeat history.”

The Nadimarg massacre remains one of the most painful events in the history of the Kashmiri Pandits’ exodus and persecution. This incident shook the entire nation. Even today, many homes in the village lie in ruins, and the affected families continue to hope for justice.

Women, children, and the elderly were among the victims of this horrific event. Many homes were destroyed, leaving the surviving families permanently displaced.
