Beijing, May 10: According to data released on May 9 by the General Administration of Customs of China, the total value of China’s imports and exports reached 16.23 trillion yuan in the first four months of this year. This marks a 14.9% increase compared to the same period last year, continuing a trend of positive growth.
Exports amounted to 9.33 trillion yuan, reflecting an 11.3% rise, while imports reached 6.9 trillion yuan, showing a 20% increase. During this period, trade between China and Africa hit record highs.
This year marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Africa, and the scope of economic and trade cooperation between the two continues to expand.
From an export perspective, African nations are currently experiencing rapid growth, with strong demand across all sectors of production and consumption. The goods exported by China effectively meet these needs. On the import side, China provides a vast market for African countries, fully leveraging its market advantages.
Customs data indicates that in the first four months of this year, trade between China and African nations reached 88.534 billion yuan, a 19.4% increase compared to the same period last year. For the first time in history, trade during this period exceeded 800 billion yuan.
According to Lv Taliang, director of the Statistics and Analysis Department of the General Administration of Customs, China’s imports from Africa increased by 11.2% in the first four months compared to the previous year, marking the eighth consecutive month of growth.
He noted that starting May 1, China fully implemented a zero-tariff policy on imports from 53 African countries with which it has established diplomatic relations. So far, African products such as apples, oranges, and avocados have been declared for import under this zero-tariff program. With its vast market, China is providing new opportunities for growth and development in Africa, benefiting people in both regions.
