Record-Breaking Heat Hits Chityala, Andhra Pradesh

Amaravati, May 24: Chityala in Andhra Pradesh’s East Godavari district recorded the highest temperature of the season at 48.3 degrees Celsius on Sunday. The intense sunlight and scorching winds have severely disrupted daily life for residents.

According to the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA), temperatures also reached 48.1 degrees Celsius in Tanuku of West Godavari district and Piduguralla in Palnadu district. The relentless heat has created serious conditions across several districts.

SDMA Managing Director Prakhar Jain reported that temperatures exceeded 45 degrees Celsius in 13 districts. Additionally, 174 mandals across 17 districts recorded temperatures above 44 degrees.

The highest heat was noted in 23 mandals of Eluru district. Other areas affected include 21 mandals in East Godavari, 17 in West Godavari, 16 in Krishna, 15 in Bapatla, 14 in NTR district, 13 in Palnadu, 12 in Konaseema, and 11 in Kakinada.

Jain urged residents to remain cautious, warning that extreme heat could persist for the next three days. He advised people to avoid traveling between 11 AM and 4 PM. If travel is necessary, it is essential to carry drinking water.

The weather department forecasts severe heatwave conditions in 29 mandals and general heatwave conditions in 166 mandals on Monday, May 25. On Tuesday, 50 mandals may experience severe heat, while 205 mandals could face general heatwave effects.

Temperatures in Konaseema, East Godavari, West Godavari, Polavaram, Eluru, NTR, Krishna, Guntur, Bapatla, Palnadu, and Prakasam districts are expected to range between 45 to 47 degrees Celsius.

The neighboring state of Telangana is also experiencing heatwave effects. Out of 33 districts, 16 recorded temperatures of 45 degrees Celsius or higher. The highest temperature was recorded at 46.3 degrees Celsius in Dummugudem of Bhadradri Kothagudem district and Dharmapuri of Jagtiyal district. Hyderabad recorded a maximum temperature of 42.1 degrees Celsius.
