RCB Faces Second Consecutive Defeat in IPL 2026 Against LSG

Mumbai, May 8: Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) faced their second consecutive defeat in IPL 2026. On Thursday evening at the Ekana Stadium, RCB lost to Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by 9 runs under the DLS rule. After the match, RCB captain Rajat Patidar remarked that they fell short by “one or two shots.”

Patidar stated, “We knew how to chase the target. The boys played well. All the batsmen showed good intent. It was a great pitch for batting, and the ball was coming onto the bat nicely. We went till the end, just one or two shots short. We have four more matches, and we will take it match by match.”

Regarding LSG’s centurion Mitchell Marsh, Patidar said, “He played exceptionally well. He put pressure on us, especially during the powerplay. Marsh’s innings was outstanding. I was uncertain about whom to bowl to him after the powerplay.”

The rain-affected match saw RCB win the toss and opt to bowl first. LSG’s opener, Mitchell Marsh, delivered a blistering century, marking the fastest century by an LSG batsman in IPL history. Marsh scored 111 runs off 56 balls, hitting 9 sixes and 9 fours, leading LSG to a total of 209 runs for 3 wickets in 19 overs.

RCB was set a target of 213 runs under the DLS method. However, their start was poor, with Jacob Bethel scoring just 4 runs and Virat Kohli dismissed without scoring. Despite contributions from Devdutt Padikkal (34 runs off 25 balls), Rajat Patidar (61 runs off 31 balls), Tim David (40 runs off 17 balls), Krunal Pandya (28 runs not out off 16 balls), and Romario Shepherd (23 runs not out off 15 balls), RCB managed only 203 runs for 6 wickets in 19 overs, losing the match by 9 runs. Marsh was named Player of the Match.
