New Delhi, August 8: Afghanistan delivered an impressive performance, defeating Ireland by 92 runs in a rain-affected match. The standout player was Rashid Khan, who claimed six wickets for just 34 runs. Rashid emphasized his focus on consistently bowling in the right areas, which contributed to his success.

Rashid was awarded ‘Player of the Match’ for his exceptional spell. After the game, he stated, “The spin here is fantastic, which I really enjoy, especially in these conditions. More importantly, it’s crucial to bowl consistently in the right areas. I focused on that. Bowling at a length of 5-5.5 meters and targeting the stumps keeps you in the game. As a spinner, I believe in keeping things simple—maintaining good length and placing the ball accurately at 5-5.5 meters. It’s important to mix up deliveries like leg-spin, wrong-un, and flipper, but length is key. Always aim for the ball to hit the stumps.”

The experienced Afghan spinner added, “Keep things simple and enjoy your magical spells. We won’t become the best team overnight. Our series against India was quite challenging. There are areas for improvement in our bowling unit. From a fast bowling perspective, we didn’t get the chance to bowl in the final overs during this match. However, I believe we can perform much better with the new ball. We made many mistakes against India. This is a great opportunity for us to bowl well as a team at the right length. It will be good preparation for the next World Cup. I think we can improve our control in the fast bowling unit.”

The second ODI between Afghanistan and Ireland was shortened to 47 overs due to rain. Batting first, Afghanistan scored 299 runs, losing eight wickets. Ibrahim Zadran played a strong innings, scoring 84 runs, while Sediqullah Atal contributed 45 runs. Additionally, Azmatullah Omarzai added 33 runs. In pursuit of the 300-run target, Ireland was bowled out for 207 runs. Cade Carmichael was the top scorer for Ireland with 62 runs, while six of their batsmen failed to reach double digits.
