Ranbir Kapoor Reflects on His Relationship with Late Father Rishi Kapoor on KBC
Ranbir Kapoor shares heartfelt memories of his father, Rishi Kapoor, during a recent appearance on KBC, discussing their unique bond.

Mumbai, November 3 (Daily Kiran) : Ranbir Kapoor recently appeared on the popular quiz reality show “Kaun Banega Crorepati,” where he shared a touching story about his late father, Rishi Kapoor. During the episode, he engaged in a conversation with megastar Amitabh Bachchan, reflecting on how his father’s views shaped his journey as an actor.
The emotional exchange began when Bachchan spoke about the special bond between fathers and sons, particularly recalling his own experiences with Rishi Kapoor. He asked Ranbir if there was ever a moment when his father praised his work.
Ranbir candidly revealed that Rishi was often critical of his film choices. “When Dad watched my movies, he was rarely satisfied with my roles or selections,” Ranbir explained. “He would question me, asking, ‘What kind of films are you doing? Wake Up Sid, Rocket Singh, Barfi, Tamasha.'”
He recounted a saying from his great-grandfather, Prithviraj Kapoor, who often stated, “Art serves the nation.” Ranbir recalled that his father would challenge him with, “Which nation are you serving?” At the time, he didn’t fully grasp the meaning behind his father’s words. As an actor, he felt connected to the characters he portrayed, believing they resonated with his personal perspective.
It’s worth noting that both Ranbir and the late Rishi Kapoor had previously discussed their complex relationship in several interviews. Rishi Kapoor passed away in April 2020 after a battle with cancer.
