Beneficiary in Karnataka Celebrates Zero Electricity Bill Under PM Solar Home Scheme

A Karnataka resident shares his gratitude for zero electricity bills after installing solar panels through the PM Solar Home Scheme.

Mangaluru, November 3 (Daily Kiran) : The Prime Minister’s Solar Home Scheme has brought significant relief to families in Mangaluru, Karnataka, by installing solar systems in their homes. Arun G. Shet, a beneficiary of the program, recently expressed his gratitude after his monthly electricity bill dropped to zero, a stark contrast to the over ₹3,000 he previously paid.

Shet explained that the installation of solar panels not only eliminated his electricity costs but also allowed him to receive payments for the surplus electricity sent back to the grid. “The rooftop solar panels have completely changed my electricity expenses,” he stated. “Before, I was paying more than ₹3,000 each month, but now my bill is zero. The extra power generated is sent to the power grid, for which I get paid.”

He estimates that within two and a half years, he will recover about 65 to 70 percent of his investment. Shet noted that these solar panels could provide electricity for the next 20 to 25 years without any additional costs. He emphasized that this initiative not only reduces household expenses but also contributes to environmental conservation.

Expressing his appreciation for Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Shet highlighted the financial benefits of decreased bills and earnings from selling surplus electricity. He suggested increasing subsidies and offering interest-free loans to encourage more families to adopt solar panel installations.

In a similar vein, Mahendra Pratap Sinha, another beneficiary from Chhattisgarh, shared his experience of facing monthly electricity bills ranging from ₹1,000 to ₹6,000. Frustrated with these hefty charges, he also opted for solar panels under the PM Solar Home Scheme, resulting in substantial savings.

Sinha installed a 3-kilowatt solar panel system and remarked on how beneficial the initiative has been for him.
