Ongoing Diplomatic Talks Between the U.S. and Iran Show Persistent Differences, Says Qatars Foreign Ministry

Despite ongoing discussions, the U.S. and Iran still face significant disagreements, according to Qatars Foreign Ministry spokesperson.

Doha, November 3 (Daily Kiran) : Qatar’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Majid Al Ansari, announced on November 3 that despite continuous diplomatic talks, significant differences remain between the United States and Iran. Both nations are currently considering proposals aimed at reducing tensions and preventing conflict.

During a weekly press briefing, Al Ansari noted that efforts to bridge the gap between the two sides are ongoing. He stated that both the U.S. and Iran are reviewing suggestions and proposals put forth by mediators.

According to Xinhua News Agency, Al Ansari revealed that a Qatari delegation returned from Tehran on Monday evening, where they engaged in discussions with Iranian officials for over three hours, exceeding the initially planned one-hour meeting. During these talks, various ideas and proposals to ease differences between Washington and Tehran were discussed. He emphasized that mediation efforts will continue following this visit.

However, Al Ansari cautioned against viewing the ongoing discussions as a major breakthrough. He indicated that no concrete outcomes have emerged that warrant formal announcement. Nevertheless, both parties are showing a willingness to continue dialogue.

He mentioned that Qatar is working towards an interim agreement aimed at building trust between the U.S. and Iran, which could pave the way for further negotiations and a lasting resolution.

Al Ansari emphasized that confidence-building measures should be part of a phased diplomatic process, with both sides demonstrating their commitment by implementing agreed-upon actions.

He also addressed a recent incident involving Qatar’s LNG vessel Al Mayeda in the Arabian Sea, condemning the attack and asserting Qatar’s opposition to any actions that threaten the free navigation of maritime routes.

According to him, member countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) are continuously coordinating to prevent escalating tensions in the region. Al Ansari expressed hope that ongoing discussions would lead to an agreement capable of resolving the current crisis and laying the groundwork for long-term peace in the region.
