Lucknow, August 30: Defense Minister and Lucknow MP Rajnath Singh stated on Sunday that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, India is rapidly progressing towards becoming a developed nation, and the world is now paying serious attention to India’s voice on international platforms.
He emphasized that this reflects India’s rising stature and changing global status. A developed India means not just the construction of large projects and modern buildings, but also ensuring clean drinking water for every family, quality education for children, opportunities for youth, and dignified facilities for all sections of society.
While addressing the groundbreaking ceremony for 12 development projects worth approximately ₹101 crores at the Lucknow Cantonment Council, Singh noted that he views these projects not merely as construction works but as a commitment to the future of Lucknow Cantonment. He referred to them as “12 resolutions” rather than just projects. Singh insisted that the journey towards a developed India should not be limited to major cities but should extend to every neighborhood, settlement, and family.
He expressed satisfaction with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath‘s dedicated efforts in this direction for Lucknow and the entire state of Uttar Pradesh. Singh remarked that under Modi’s leadership, India is advancing at a pace that the world is acknowledging. He recalled that 10-12 years ago, India’s voice on international platforms was not taken as seriously as it deserved. However, the situation has changed; now, when India speaks, the world listens attentively.
Singh clarified that a developed India is not just about erecting grand projects and modern buildings. Its true meaning lies in providing quality education for children, ensuring clean drinking water reaches every home, offering opportunities for youth to showcase their talents in sports, and ensuring that no differently-abled child feels excluded from society.
He pointed out that as times change, so do the needs of cities and people. Therefore, it is essential to amend regulations to align with development. In this context, new building bylaws have been implemented in the Lucknow Cantonment area. Previously, construction was permitted up to G+2 (Ground plus two floors); this has now been increased to G+3. With parking included, construction is now allowed up to five floors. Singh stated that the aim is to rapidly develop Lucknow Cantonment while connecting it with modern amenities and its rich heritage.
He emphasized that change should not only be in infrastructure but also in our identity and memories. In this spirit, some market names in the Lucknow Cantonment Council, which have been in place since the British era, have been renamed after Indian heroes and figures associated with the freedom struggle, social consciousness, and national service. He mentioned that the Royal Artillery Market is now called Ekta Market, the British Cavalry Market is renamed Veerangana Uda Devi Market, and the British Infantry Market is now Mata Din Valmiki Market. Another British Infantry Market has been renamed Mangal Pandey Market, while the Kennedy Market is now Atal Bihari Vajpayee Market.
Rajnath Singh stated that renaming markets is not just a formality. It aims to introduce the new generation to the country’s history, the freedom struggle, patriotism, and the contributions of great personalities to society. He noted that these new names will not only change the addresses of markets and streets but will also leave an imprint of Indian history on people’s memories and the mindset of the new generation. Singh praised the rapid development occurring in Lucknow and commended Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
He highlighted ongoing improvements in water supply, education, sports, flood control, and other basic facilities in the city. He asserted that the rule of law has been established in Uttar Pradesh, and the pace of development has accelerated. Singh mentioned that development projects in Lucknow Cantonment are expanding facilities for military personnel, veterans, and civilians alike. The goal is to equip the cantonment area with modern amenities while preserving its historical identity and heritage. The development in Lucknow and Uttar Pradesh aims not only to meet current needs but also to lay the foundation for better infrastructure and quality of life for future generations.
