Rajasthan MP Demands Safe Return of Missing Indians from Russia

Jaipur: Nagaur MP Hanuman Beniwal has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar to ensure the safe return of Indian citizens missing in Russia. These individuals, hailing from Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Jammu, were reportedly misled by travel agents with false employment promises and forcibly recruited into the Russian armed forces.

On Wednesday, families of 24 stranded Indian youths met Beniwal at his Delhi residence to share their concerns. The relatives expressed deep anguish over the lack of information about their loved ones’ safety, whereabouts, and well-being in the conflict zone, which has caused them severe mental distress.

Beniwal highlighted that contact with many of these youths has been lost for several months, increasing the families’ anxiety. Taking the matter seriously, the MP has written to Prime Minister Modi, External Affairs Minister Jaishankar, and Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh, calling for immediate intervention.

He cited an official response received during the Winter Session of Parliament, stating that a total of 211 Indian citizens are involved in this issue. Among them, some are reported missing, 27 have tragically died, 121 have been brought back to India, and 63 remain stranded in Russia.

Beniwal appealed to the central government to prioritise the safety and prompt repatriation of the remaining Indian nationals. He also urged authorities to provide relief and support to affected families and to maintain transparent, regular communication regarding the status of the missing youths.

The RLP leader recalled that last December he had demanded intensified diplomatic efforts to secure the safe return of Indians trapped in Russia. He had also raised this issue in the Lok Sabha during Zero Hour, describing it as a grave humanitarian crisis.

Beniwal explained that these youths had travelled to Russia on study and work visas but were allegedly deceived by travel agents and subsequently pushed into military roles amid the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Many families have not been able to contact their missing relatives for three to four months, heightening their distress and concern.
