Jaipur, February 17: The Rajasthan Assembly witnessed significant turmoil during the budget session on Tuesday, as discussions surrounding cow-related issues escalated into a heated confrontation. The uproar began following the discovery of a severed calf head near the Hingonia Gaushala in Jaipur.

Opposition leader Tikaram Julie accused the government of failing to maintain law and order, claiming that a member of the ruling party was protecting the accused in this case. His remarks led to a standoff between legislators from both sides, creating a highly charged atmosphere in the house.

The chaos erupted when BJP MLA Bal Mukundacharya from Hawa Mahal questioned the government about the possibility of declaring the cow as the state animal of Rajasthan. In response, Livestock Minister Joraram Kumawat clarified that there were currently no proposals under consideration.

This answer sparked further unrest, but the opposition’s allegations regarding the Jaipur incident intensified the situation. Tikaram Julie indirectly pointed to BJP’s Civil Lines MLA Gopal Sharma, accusing him of attempting to shield the accused.

In response, Gopal Sharma stated that he would resign from the assembly immediately if any involvement of his supporter was proven. This exchange led to loud chanting between the two sides. Reports indicated that Gopal Sharma moved towards the opposition benches, prompting Congress leaders Govind Singh Dotasra and Ashok Chandna to step forward, resulting in a chaotic scene in the assembly.

Opposition legislators waved posters related to the incident, which drew a strong objection from Assembly Speaker Vasudev Devnani. He remarked that the manner of bringing and displaying the posters seemed premeditated. The Speaker instructed Chief Whip Jogeshwar Garg to calm the situation and urged for the dignity of the house to be maintained.

Despite repeated appeals, the intense debate and accusations continued. The opposition accused the government of politicizing cow protection and failing to ensure security even in the capital.
