Mumbai, August 2: Raj Thackeray, the leader of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), expressed his concerns regarding the offensive language used against Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a recent protest at Jantar Mantar. Speaking at the 20th anniversary event of the Maharashtra Navnirman Vidyarthi Sena (MNVS), Thackeray stated that while he condemns the disrespectful remarks, he believes the Prime Minister should also advise his party members and supporters to refrain from using such language.
Thackeray emphasized that no individual should be subjected to derogatory comments, and this standard should apply to all political parties. He remarked, “The language used against Prime Minister Modi at Jantar Mantar was inappropriate. I completely agree that such lowly language should not be used against anyone. I urge the Prime Minister to convey this message to his party members.”
His comments followed a video shared by PM Modi on Instagram, where the Prime Minister expressed his discontent over the offensive remarks directed at him and his mother. In the video, Modi stated that he forgives the youth involved and requested that no legal action be taken against them.
Criticizing the political culture, Thackeray accused the BJP of promoting aggressive online trolling. He pointed out, “Look at the language your troll team uses against figures like Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, and Indira Gandhi. Many artists in Maharashtra are afraid to speak out. Teams have been formed in every state—tell them not to abuse people.”
He further added, “This culture of trolling has emerged over the past 12 years. You reap what you sow. PM Modi mentioned that he and his mother were insulted, which is wrong. But I implore the Prime Minister—others have mothers too. Please instruct your party leaders to maintain decorum. While you have forgiven the youth at Jantar Mantar, who will apologize for the actions of your supporters over the past 12 years?”
Discussing youth issues, Thackeray urged his student wing to adapt to changing times and understand the aspirations of the current generation. He stated, “When I was a student, the issues were different. Today’s topics and youth are distinct. We have witnessed the evolution from Telegram to Instagram. It is crucial to understand what Generation Z desires. They exist even in rural Maharashtra. Understanding their expectations is essential, and the MNS student wing should work on this.”
