New Delhi, September 28 (Daily Kiran) : Recent rainfall across the National Capital Region (NCR), including New Delhi, has transformed the weather and drastically improved air quality. For the first time in months, residents are breathing some of the cleanest air, thanks to the rain that has alleviated the summer heat and washed away pollutants.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), pleasant weather is expected to continue for the next three days. However, forecasts indicate no rain is likely from Monday onward. As of September 28, the maximum temperature in Delhi reached 32 degrees Celsius, with a minimum of 21 degrees. Humidity levels fluctuated between 90% and 65%, with partial cloud cover expected.
On September 29, temperatures are projected to range from 33 to 23 degrees, while September 30 may see highs of 34 degrees and lows of 23 degrees. The weather is expected to remain dry as October begins, with clear skies anticipated on October 1, 2, and 3, and temperatures potentially peaking at 34 degrees with minimums around 24 degrees.
The rain has led to a significant drop in the Air Quality Index (AQI). Data from the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) and the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) show that air quality across various areas in Delhi has improved to ‘satisfactory’ and ‘good’ categories. For instance, the AQI in Alipur was recorded at 27, Anand Vihar at 66, Ashok Vihar at 45, Aaya Nagar at 44, Bawana at 35, Burari Crossing at 39, and Chandni Chowk at 69.
Noida also reported better air quality, with AQI readings of 40 in Sector 125, 29 in Sector 62, 45 in Sector 1, and 42 in Sector 116. In Ghaziabad, the AQI was 28 in Govindpuram, 22 in Indirapuram, 56 in Loni, 33 in Sanjay Nagar, 28 in Vasundhara, and 86 in Ved Vihar-Loni. While the Wave City area in Ghaziabad had an AQI of 103, classified as ‘moderate’, this is still an improvement compared to other regions.
This period marks a welcome relief for residents of Delhi-NCR, who have experienced a significant reduction in pollution levels. The weather department notes that while the skies will remain clear and temperatures may rise slightly, humidity could persist due to the lack of rain. With minimal chances of precipitation from Monday, pollution levels may rise again in the coming days.
