New Delhi, March 18: Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha, held an informal meeting with fellow Congress MPs whose suspensions were recently lifted. During this gathering, they discussed various matters over tea and coffee.
This meeting took place a day after the Lok Sabha’s Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Kiren Rijiju, proposed the revocation of the suspensions of eight Congress MPs. The decision followed an expression of regret from Congress leadership regarding the uproar during the budget session.
Sources indicate that Rahul Gandhi sought insights from the MPs about the events that transpired during their suspension. The MPs detailed the incidents that occurred in the house and the circumstances that led to their suspension.
The MPs whose suspensions were revoked include Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, Manickam Tagore, Gurjeet Singh Aujla, Hibi Eden, C. Kiran Kumar Reddy, Prashant Yadavrao Padole, S. Venkatesh, and Dean Kuriakos. All these MPs were suspended on February 3 during the budget session for allegedly disrupting the proceedings and throwing papers at the Speaker.
Following the lifting of their suspensions, the Congress MPs welcomed the decision and expressed gratitude to the party leadership and the president. However, they emphasized that the opposition’s role is crucial in a democracy, and they will continue to raise public issues.
The MPs asserted that it is essential for the opposition to remain active in Parliament, as debates and discussions are vital for voicing the public’s concerns. They stated that they will continue to question government policies and protest when necessary.
