Rahul Gandhi Critiques Modi and Mamata Banerjee as Two Sides of the Same Coin

Kolkata, April 25: In a recent address at an election rally in Hooghly, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee are “two sides of the same coin.” He argued that neither leader truly cares about the aspirations of the common people.

Gandhi criticized Modi for presenting himself as a true nationalist while failing to take action for the poor, claiming that his policies primarily benefit the wealthy. He further asserted that Mamata Banerjee, like Modi, neglects the need for job creation for the youth. According to Gandhi, both leaders are primarily concerned with their own interests.

During the rally, he highlighted a competition of corruption between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at the national level and the Trinamool Congress (TMC) at the state level. Gandhi accused top TMC leaders of involvement in various scams, including chit fund fraud, coal smuggling, and bribery for jobs. He alleged that the TMC has engaged in extortion throughout the state, while the BJP incites violence on a national scale.

Gandhi also questioned the future of the five lakh jobs promised by Banerjee shortly after she became Chief Minister in 2011. He asked, “Has anyone received a job?” Over 8.4 million youth in West Bengal have applied for unemployment benefits, illustrating the dire situation in the state. He claimed that Banerjee has done nothing for the people of West Bengal in the past 15 years.

Additionally, Gandhi suggested that there is a secret understanding between Modi and Banerjee, which has resulted in no cases being filed against either of them. He emphasized that Congress is fighting against the BJP, stating, “They have taken my home. I am on bail. They have stripped me of my Lok Sabha membership. I face 36 cases against me. I must appear every 10 to 15 days in Jharkhand, Maharashtra, or Bihar. How many cases are there against Mamata Banerjee? How many hours of questioning has she faced? I underwent 55 hours of questioning over five consecutive days. No action is being taken against her. Why? Because she does not confront the BJP directly.”
