Rahul Gandhi Appeals to Public to Share Experiences on Air Pollution Impact

New Delhi: Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi has urged people across India to share how air pollution is affecting their health and that of their families. He made this appeal on Sunday through a portal named ‘Awaaz India Ki’, encouraging citizens to voice their concerns directly.

‘Awaaz India Ki’ is an initiative by Rahul Gandhi aimed at providing a platform for people to communicate their problems, suggestions, and worries directly to his office. The details of this initiative are available on its official website.

In a post on the social media platform X, Rahul Gandhi stated, “We are paying a heavy price for air pollution, both in terms of our health and economy. Millions of common Indians bear this burden every day.”

He highlighted that the most vulnerable sections of society are the worst affected by this issue. “Children and the elderly suffer the most. Workers involved in construction and daily wage labourers have also faced serious consequences. This crisis cannot be ignored until the next winter. The first step towards change is raising our voices,” he added.

Calling for public participation, Rahul Gandhi urged, “Tell us how air pollution has impacted you or your loved ones. Share your experiences on ‘Awaaz India Ki’. Your voice matters, and it is my duty to raise it.”

This appeal comes at a time when Delhi and several neighbouring cities have been grappling with severe air pollution over the past few months. The poor air quality has led to an increase in respiratory and other health problems, making it difficult especially for children and elderly people to go outdoors due to smog and toxic air.

During this period, Delhi’s air quality index has often reached ‘severe’ levels, forcing schools to switch to online classes multiple times.

In December last year, residents of Delhi held protests demanding concrete action from the government to tackle the rising pollution. Over a hundred people including students, social activists, and citizens gathered at Jantar Mantar urging both state and central governments to take immediate steps.

Additionally, during the winter session of Parliament last year, the Congress party repeatedly raised the issue of air pollution in both houses. Party leaders staged protests with placards, demanding accountability from the government for the worsening environmental and public health crisis.
