Lucknow, March 20: Uttar Pradesh’s Minister of Horticulture, Agricultural Marketing, and Agricultural Exports, Dinesh Pratap Singh, held a crucial press conference regarding potato storage, market prices, and marketing strategies. He announced that the ammonia gas shortage crisis was resolved in just 24 hours through coordination between the central and state governments, providing significant relief to millions of farmers and cold storage operators.

Minister Singh began the press conference by welcoming cold storage operators and potato farmers, praising the decisions made under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership for the benefit of farmers. He emphasized that the state government is continuously working to improve potato storage and marketing.

He revealed that a deal has been signed with the Odisha government to purchase 1.5 million metric tons of potatoes, which is expected to enhance the prices for farmers. However, a crisis emerged suddenly when a shortage of ammonia gas was reported in cold storage facilities. This situation arose due to global factors, but immediate resolution efforts were initiated under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s guidance.

Singh explained that he contacted the Union Minister for Fertilizers and Chemicals, J.P. Nadda, and the Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri. Following a meeting with a delegation, both central ministers took prompt action, issuing necessary directives within 24 hours to ensure the supply of ammonia gas to cold storage operators.

The minister stated that this swift action not only protected the stored potatoes from damage but also boosted the confidence of farmers and cold storage operators. He expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister and the relevant central ministers, describing it as a significant step towards building a ‘Great India.’ He also commended the efforts of Trupti Singh, Vice President of the Cold Storage Association, noting that the successful resolution of this crisis was made possible through coordinated efforts.
